‘A slight impression’

At the end of August 2023 I had to leave my atelier, which by then I had for exactly one full year. I was aware that I had to leave somewhere around this time since the building was going to be demolished. This fact planted a seed for a work I knew needed time to develop itself. In the time that I worked in this atelier my practice took an unexpected shift. All I wanted to do was to paint, and I’m looking back with joy on he things that I made in this period of time. All my actions of the previous year are imprinted on the carpet floor, which show how I’ve used the space and where I left my marks. Splatters of paint and dents of furniture pieces create a landscape that reflect my existence on the 25 square meter surface. It’s a work I knowingly shaped but also has a life of its own.

I ripped the old carpet floor apart and sewed it back together, mending a big wound, during Big Art in De Bajes, an old prison in Amsterdam.
